Distribuzione e habitat

Entrambe le specie appartenenti a questo genere sono diffuse nell'mwewoceano Pacifico; l'areale di mwfaP. russelli si estende anche all'mwfqoceano Indianocite-ref-i-2-0[2]. Sono mwggdemersali e sono solitamente trovati oltre i 100 m di profondità.

Descrizione

Presentano un mwhqcorpo non molto allungato né alto, compresso lateralmente e con la testa dal profilo abbastanza appuntito. La mwhglivrea tende al rosa-rossastro, le dimensioni massime sono intorno ai 25 cmcite-ref-3[3]cite-ref-4[4].

Biologia

È poco conosciuta, ma è probabile che si tratti di specie non gregariecite-ref-i-2-1[2].

Tassonomia

Questo genere comprende soltanto due mwlwspeciecite-ref-worms-1-1[1]:

• mwngPolylepion cruentum mwoaGomon, 1977
• mwogPolylepion russelli (mwpaGomon & Randall, 1975)

Conservazione

mwpwP. cruentum viene classificato come "dati insufficienti" (DD) dalla mwqalista rossa IUCN perché viene catturato dalla mwqqpesca a strascico, ma non è noto quanto questa minaccia incida sulla diffusione della speciecite-ref-5[5]; mwrgP. russelli è classificato come "a rischio minimo" (LC)cite-ref-6[6].
